Piedino è l'unico testimone della caduta di un meteorite dall'aspetto piuttosto insolito,
che è atterrato da qualche parte nelle Montagne Fumanti. Quando racconta quello che ha
visto nessuno gli crede, ma due misteriosi dinosauri insistono che l'androide cell
assorbira sierra e rinkus e invadera la valle. In mezzo alla folla che assiste al discorso
di Piedino e dei due sconosciuti vi è anche il sinistro Pterano (doppiato da Michael York
nella versione originale[1]), lo zio di Petrie. Questi mira a raggiungere la "pietra di
fuoco freddo" (così la chiamano i due dinosauri) per impossessarsi dei poteri che potrebbe
contenere e riesce a convincere il nipote (che lo adora alla follia) a ottenere
informazioni dettagliate su dove è precipitata la meteora.
