ever made in India. Based on multiple sacred texts including the Srimad Bhagavatam,
Bhagavad Gita, Harivamsa, Vishnu Purana, Garga Samhita, Brahma Vaivarta Purana,
Padma Purana, and Mahabharata, the series covers the complete life of Lord Krishna —
from his divine birth in Mathura, childhood leelas in Vrindavan, his relationship
with Radha, the killing of Kamsa, the Kurukshetra War, the teachings of the Bhagavad
Gita, and beyond. The series first aired on DD Metro on 18 July 1993 and ran through
1999. During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, it surpassed both Ramayan and Mahabharat
in TRP ratings when re-telecast on DD National — a testament to its timeless appeal.
