The nineties will be the decade of a jazz thing, welcome to the story so far. A story of musical evolution, of different artists following similar paths to the same musical conclusion; the fusion of jazz with contemporary dance music.
The tracks on this album are by both British and US artists, people who aren’t integrated in the same culture, yet musically they share much in common. Whether using sampling, real instruments, or a combination of both, these are grooves that respect the traditions they are born out of. In fact many of the tracks here are based around samples or ‘loops’, but this isn’t just pilfering the musical flavours of the past, its the liberation of sampling from the act of stealing to the art of music making.
